We'll need two documents in your name from you as well as a selfie. It's important we do so as we are a regulated money service business and this is a requirement for operating our kind of service in Canada. It’s the law.


They must be original, electronic documents, such as e-bills, e-statements, etc., downloaded from your provider's website. Non-electronic documents will not be accepted. 

The documents cannot be a scan, photocopy or picture of a paper document.

Please send us 2 recent documents, one Category A and one Category B document.

Category A

  • Utility bill (electricity, water, internet or phone)
  • Benefits statement 
  • Insurance document
  • Government document

Category B

  • Credit card statement
  • Bank statement
  • Mortgage or loan account statement

Both documents would also need to be the most recent. If the statement is updated every two months, no problem, we can use the latest statement even if the latest was received over a month ago.


Please also send a selfie while holding your passport or driver's license alongside a paper with "Shakepay" and today's date written on it. Please make sure that the picture is clear and that we can easily see your name on the ID.
